Saturday 3rd May
I was glad that this was a late arrival (10am) after not sleeping well on Thursday night, and then having a disturbed sleep Friday (first night in a new bed). I woke shortly before the Captain's announcement at 10am, and then dozed until 11. It was good to have a slow start.
I had not planned anything for Las Palmas. I had
ideas of places I could see but I was too weary to organise myself. I wandered
around, looking at little garden areas.
I found a dance competition in a nearby
square and watched a couple of heats of that. Contestants were of all ages,
including a girl of about three dancing with her mother or big sister. There
seemed to be a set pattern of steps that all were dancing.
Eventually I went
back to the ship for lunch and sat on my balcony to relax. I could not get
moving to get up and go out, even though I’d been told there was a beach
nearby. Some friends from the ship swam there but I sat quietly and read on my new glass-fronted balcony. (This is classed as a partially-obscured balcony because of the lifeboats on the level below. As you can see, the view is only obscured if you want to look at the water directly below. The balcony is slightly smaller, but this was no problem.)
